Park History and Plans:
Mr. Skyrman, who died in September 2010, donated the property to the City of Central Point with the stipulation that it be used as an arboretum to provide for educational programs for youth from around the region and for public enjoyment. The site is unique in that Mr. Skyrman’s father planted a variety of shrubs and every tree species native to Oregon, including the largest gray pine tree in the state. The property also includes two structures, a log cabin the family built to celebrate the bicentennial in 1976 and the Skyrman home. These buildings will be used to house classroom space for various educational programs.
